The SMART BODY MANAGEMENT Workshops
The SMART BODY MANAGEMENT Workshops are delivered in small group formats. All trainings are thoroughly customized to be specific to the needs of the groups being trained and are delivered via the following specific actions:
1. Job site analysis and pre-assessment. Critically important to the process is a thorough assessment of job tasks, work environments, tools and materials. Employee and management interviews are conducted and employees are observed in the process of daily tasks and activities.
2. Design and customization of workshop. Information garnered from the pre-assessment process is then used to customize each workshop to match the needs of the employees.
3. Employee Motivation: Our workshop introduction gains employee “buy-in” and motivates individuals to become responsible for their own wellness. Important to this discussion is developing an awareness of how innocent, frequent stress accumulates silently to cause injury (repetitive stress and cumulative trauma), and the importance of good postural habits in maintaining health.
4. The Smart Body Manager Stretching Module - All employees are taught how to perform non-strenuous stretching exercises. Emphasis is placed on the following key components of stretching:
- How to perform stretches safely and correctly for maximum benefit
- How to identify and address problem areas in one’s own body
- How to customize stretches per particular job tasks
- The practical application of on-the-job stretching and the value and benefits of same
5. Practical Techniques - This is a major focus of our program and is where bad work habits are broken and replaced with safer, more efficient work techniques. Employees are trained and coached in the performance of actual job tasks. Risky habits are identified, and optimal techniques are practiced to mastery. This process is customized to each job description.
6. For Office Workers: The above mentioned approach is applied equally to administrative personnel, and can include evaluation and modification of individual workstations to assure that all ergonomic considerations are optimized.
7. Questions and Answers. The group format allows for the inclusion of creative approaches to difficult situations for the benefit of all participants. Employee questions, concerns and comments are welcome and heighten the value of the workshop for the participants.
8. Quality Control: Each employee fills out a course-evaluation which is used to keep us "on track" and make sure the needs of the company and the employees are being met.
Workshop Duration: Each workshop is delivered in a 2 hour format, for up to a maximum of 20 people per each workshop. If time is a concern, workshops can be delivered in time sensitive modules.
Summary
Repetitive Stress Disorders are at epidemic proportions. The reason for this is that most humans have never been taught how to use their bodies efficiently, or how to perform simple stretches to counteract the accumulation of physical stress in their bodies. Our combination of theory and practical teaching methods ensure they learn how to use their bodies safely both at home and on-the-job! The formula is simple: we allow less stress into the body through proper work technique and postural habits, and we get the stress out of the body, so it does not accumulate to cause injury, by regular stretching. These habits can be adopted in a very practical, productive manner which we call… Smart Body Management.
